2025 marks 80 years since the end of World of War Two in Europe and Japan.
Join Heritage Co-Ordinator, Joseph Lewis as we trace the surviving evidence of Yeovil and South Somerset’s contribution to both the First and Second World Wars. From Petter’s contribution making seaplanes under licence to the American soldiers stationed at Houndstone Camp before departure for D-Day in 1944. Joseph will also highlight Yeovil War Memorial and the Prowse Memorial Window, Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital in South Street, the plaque to Charles Gillard Auxiliary Fire Service and examples of Victory in Europe parties and celebration photographs.
This talk will be accompanied by objects from the main collection. Copies of the Yeovil Remembers First World War Booklet will also be available to acquire for a donation.
